Character Development

Weatherman

Character Sheet and Development

The weatherman is designed as a grumpy but professional type of character, much like some of the familiar "uncle personalities" that we (as Singaporeans) are familiar with in our previous experiences. He may very well remind some of us of  the silently judging janitor back during our primary school days, or the grumpy looking uncle drinking kopi-oh (black coffee) at the void deck kopitiam (coffee shop) on a lazy afternoon.

We also try to play around with various types of artistic liberties by making the hero of our animation a somewhat unlikely and reluctant one. Through the brainstorming of the type of person who could be professional and reliable enough to manage such an important job that looks after an entire town, we deduced that it should very well fall onto the shoulders of an experienced and wise person. In order to make things more difficult for our protagonist, more than just physical limitations, we decided to give him a grumpy personality as a flaw which helped to solidify the direction of our animation.

Kite Lady

Character Sheet and Development

The kite lady is designed to contrast with our protagonist in almost every way. She's a young, feminine, carefree and energetic person who wouldn't hesitate to lend a helping hand to those in need. The difference between the two characters help to highlight our point that despite how everyone's differences make it seem as though we are complete strangers, we still affect one another in ways that we do not expect and may not even find out. The use of bright colours and an (literally) uplifting hairstyle in her design reinforces the theme of positivity that we keep in mind when making design decisions.
